One of the key trends of the previous years associated with Nigerian professionals was not to stick to the usual 9 to 5 working schedule. The incidence displayed in the latest LinkedIn Africa Report (2024) indicates that more than 60% of the professionals in Nigeria are either considering freelancing or remote working as well as other alternative working schemes.
This is attributed to the fact, that the trend is also pointing towards a universal need to have flexibility, work-life balance and independent sources of income. This Migration is being driven by economic pressure, inflation, and greater ease of access to world online working opportunities via Upwork, Fiverr, and Remote OK, to name but a few. To other people, freelancing is no longer a part-time job, but the new full-time job.
Learning of some digital skills, which include: graphic work, data entry, virtual assistant, content creating etc., is equally opening the doors that would allow the young Nigerian to earn dollars in the comfort of their homes. With an increasing number of companies going hybrid and remote, professionals, therefore, do not have to cling to physical offices anymore to succeed.
To prospective employees and those already in the workplace, time to master new on-trend skills and stay in the remote work wave may be nigh.
9 to 5 working mostly those who earn very little are outrageous, i meant would you like it this way- that they make you to arrive not even at 9 am on Mondays to Fridays but arriving at 7 in the morning and leave at 4 pm or 5 pm and you take home something that is not even a minimum wage.
This is a good development considering that it gives them opportunity to meet up with the harsh economy.
